The catholic church played a huge role in bringing the hungerstrike to an end.Knowing they couldn't break the will of the prisoners, they then began to pressurise the families into taking their family members of the strike when they lapsed into a coma, as was their legal right.Little or no pressure was brought to bear upon the British government, by either the Church or Constitutional nationalists, to find an honourable solution to the protest.
